Showing posts with the label nurse

I heard it through the grapevine...

...how much longer will [they] by mine? Unofficially, I heard yesterday that we are in danger of losing some of our nursing hours. Now, as of yet, my case manager and her supervisor have heard nothing of it, but the nursing company caught wind of something or other. Whether or not any of it (and who even knows what 'it' really is) is true or not I can't be certain. But I can say that it most likely is. That's usually the way these things go. I am led to a few conclusions: 1) It will probably be our hard earned 21 global hours per week they would take, which would leave us with only night time nursing.  2) It's most likely because we have not been able to use those hours, not because we don't need them but because the agency has not been able to fulfill them. 3) If this is the case, I'm hoping it works in our favor that we have contacted several other agencies in the past few months to try and get our hours filled. 4) Once you lose hours ...

That's all part of the experience, honey.

I'm not sure if lately I've come across as frustrated or not. I don't mean to be. And although my facebook posts may be entertaining, they are, unfortunately, true. And 99.95% of my frustration has to do with the nursing company. We have been up and down so many times with them I can't even tell you. Being promised a nurse and then not getting one. Changing our schedule around because we were told it would, without a doubt, make it possible for us to get a nurse. Orienting a nurse who says she'll be back and then changing her mind. Nurses showing up late - like half an hour to an hour and a half late... and not being apologetic at all. Someone calling and asking me where the nurse was but the only information they give me is that she missed her exit. As though there is only one exit between here and Baltimore.  It is never ending. It is so ridiculous, in fact, that I feel like God has got to be showing me something, but all I can come up with is that people are st...

A handy how NOT to...

'How not to screw up a good thing.' When you notice that something has or has not occured for a period of time DON'T, I repeat, DON'T speak it. Do not breathe it into existence. I can assure you that whatever it is you speak of will undoubtedly come to be. For example: My bursitis hasn't flared up in 7 years. or The cat hasn't puked on the carpet for a few days. or I haven't seen a Captain Planet cartoon since I was a kid. (I have to admit that this one would be awesome.) or, in our most recent case We've had a nurse every night for the past month and 22 days.  Now, I don't believe in Karma or jinxing things, but I really find it un-freaking-canny when this happens. If you've read this blog long enough then you'll know this isn't the first time something like this has happened. And you're probably thinking, 'How has she not learned her lesson yet?' I don't know. I wish I had a better answer. I'm eithe...

7:45 am: Wake up and relieve the nurse. That's right. Holler! We got a night time nurse. From 12am - 8am I can sleep!! Well, I can sleep NOW. Let's just say the first nurse was not up to our standards. Actually, she shouldn't have been up to anyone's standards. I don't really consider almost overdosing a baby 4x over as really a very good start. I wonder if she went to work that night thinking, "Hey, lets see if I can get this baby to stop breathing." Thankfully, Ben was awake and downstairs and happened to see it so he was able to stop her. If that wasn't enough for us to ask her not to come back (but it was most definitely enough) she constantly messed with Rambo throughout the night despite our multiple requests to leave him alone. She didn't understand a lot of his issues nor did she believe he fell into the 'grey' in some of his care. To her there was only black or white. Needless to say, even though the nursing company tried to send h...
